GUWAHATI: About 1400 Myanmarese, mostly women and children fleeing for their lives have taken refuge in Mizoram’s Champhai district after Myanmar air force bombarded the country’s border villages with Mizoram.
District organizer of disaster management authority VL Hruaimawia told TOI that fresh influx started since 5 pm Sunday even as one refugee died after being hit by firing from a Myanmar attack helicopter and 17 others were injured.
There are already 5600 Myanmerese refugees in this district since 2021. There are about 30,000 such refugees across the state.
