Murder & drunken brawls dampen festive spirit in city
Guwahati: Holi celebrations turned chaotic in various parts of the city as fatality, violence and public disturbance were reported, police said.The first incident occurred on Saturday at Bhairab Baba Path in Bengali Basti in the Basistha area. It stemmed from a druinken brawl during Holi celebrations which resulted in the death of one 40-year-old Shankar Biswas..East division DCP Mrinal Deka said, "The primary suspect, identified as Bekra attacked the victim and later took him to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. When Biswas was declared dead, Bekra fled. Currently, we have dispatched a team to nab him. Meanwhile, the police have arrested two persons who were also involved in the incident. They have been identified as Nripendra Chandra Biswas and Subhash Roy."On Friday, an intoxicated woman caused chaos in the Wireless area of Beltola, allegedly assaulting a female pedestrian and vandalising a business establishment, sparking panic in the neighborhood. Dispur Police later intervened and detained her. On the same day, a local musician and his friends were allegedly attacked by a group of intoxicated youths at commerce point, near the Guwahati Commerce College. Following which he filed a complaint at the Geetanagar Police Station.
