Lovlina’s home town gets 4k-seater indoor stadium

Guwahati: Tokyo Olympic medallist pugilist Lovlina Borgohain's native place, Sarupathar in Golaghat, received its inaugural stadium as CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a 4000-seater indoor sporting facility on Monday.The CM said a comprehensive sporting landscape was established in Sarupathar, which is distinctly visible in the vicinity. The indoor stadium, constructed with a financial allocation of Rs 2 crore, encompasses two synthetic badminton courts and two table tennis courts. He also shared a video playing badminton in the stadium on his social media handles. "Can't stop myself from playing a few shots whenever I see the badminton racket," he wrote on X.He also announced that construction of the Lovlina Borgohain sports complex at Sarupathar is progressing expeditiously, and a swimming pool will be constructed for Rs 75 lakh."These facilities, upon completion, will instil motivation amongst the younger generation, facilitating the development of national and international calibre sportspersons in Sarupathar," Sarma said. He directed Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan to guide his constituents in embracing the newly-launched sporting initiative.The CM added that every athlete in Sarupathar possesses the capability to excel like Lovlina Borgohain and Nayanmani Saikia. He urged parents to cultivate sporting enthusiasm in their children. He highlighted that sports promote good health. Consequently, he encouraged youth to embrace athletics as it fosters physical and mental wellbeing, potentially enabling them to join defence forces.
