2 killed in Baksa road accident

Guwahati: A fatal road accident has claimed two lives in Assam's Baksa district.
The accident took place on National Highway 127 (A) at Simla, where the vehicle struck a tree, on Thursday. According to Simla police station OC Chandan Gogoi, the victims were travelling to Swarna village in Jalah sub-division. "They were coming from the northern side, which is Bhutan," the officer said.
The deceased were identified as Parag Das (17) and Utpal Hira (18), both school students. Police believe Das was at the wheel, though this remains unconfirmed.
Following the incident, the bodies were transported to Ravi Boro Civil Hospital in Mushalpur town for post mortem.
In the Khanapara area of Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, an SUV crashed due to excessive speed, resulting in the deaths of two people recently.
The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) report of 2022 indicates that the northeast maintained a steady proportion of road accidents from 2018-22. Assam topped these statistics throughout this period, recording the highest number of accidents among all NE states.
