BMI tests to be made mandatory for Vijayanagara Police

Hosapete (Vijayanagara): Superintendent of police S Jahnavi on Sunday said BMI-based obesity tests will soon be made mandatory for police personnel in Vijayanagara district, stressing the need for physical fitness and mental resilience among staff tasked with maintaining law and order.She was speaking after inaugurating a 15-day free yoga training camp at DAR Police Parade Ground, organised by the district unit of Patanjali Yoga Samiti for the Hosapete subdivision.Highlighting the benefits of yoga and pranayama, she said they help reduce body fat and improve mental stability and advised personnel to continue the practice daily even after the camp. She added that BMI tests would be conducted periodically.Jahnavi said the training would be extended to other subdivisions as well, with additional batches planned for those unable to attend the current sessions. Additional SP G Manjunath said yoga activates the entire body, while DSP T Manjunath stressed the need to make it a daily habit.Yoga practitioners Uma Vishwanath, Dakshayini Shivakumar and Nurjahan spoke about the role of yoga in ensuring fitness and relieving stress. District yoga committee representative Ananta Joshi said yoga would help police personnel stay fit to effectively safeguard peace and harmony.More than 200 police personnel participated in the inaugural session, with senior officers joining the practice. The camp will continue for the next 14 days from 6.30am to 7.30am at the parade ground.
