Elderly woman robbed, assaulted in broad daylight

Dharwad: A doctor's house was robbed, and the housewife was assaulted in broad daylight, in Manlamaddi, Dharwad on Saturday afternoon. Two people rang the door bell of Dr Anand Kabbur's house on Kabbur road in Malamaddi at around 12.45pm and when his wife Vinodini opened the door they forcibly entered the house and assaulted her. They snatched her mangalasutra and gold bangles and in the scuffle Vinodini (77) fell down and suffered head injury.Dr Anand Kabbur who had gone out for a health check-up came back and when he entered, he saw his wife lying on the bedroom floor, bleeding. Vinodini's sister, brother and his wife who entered the house along with Dr Anand, said they saw a man standing near the bedroom, who fled on seeing them.The robbers took the cash box, a mangalasutra and some jewellery. They also took the CCTV cameras and DVR installed in the compound.Police rushed to the spot with sniffer dog, and finger print experts were also summoned for further investigation.DCPs Mahaninga Nandagavi, Raveesh, ACP Prashant Siddanagoudar, inspector Nagesh Kadadevar and others visited the spot and a man hunt has been launched. The police are examining CCTV footages of neighbouring buildings.
