Karate training for girls of 18 minority hostels

Kalaburagi: The minority welfare department has started self-defence training for girl students, who are staying at hostels run by the department, in various places in Kalaburagi city. It has planned to train 300 girl students in a month. Self-defence skills are necessary, as the girls face mental and physical harassment in public places, while going to school and returning to the hostel.
The karate training sessions will be held at 18 girls’ minority hostels, in Kalaburagi district, on Sundays. The sessions have started at two post-matric hostels near KNZ functional hall and at hostels in Tavaragera, Gulbarga University premises, Patel Nagar, Madina Colony, Vidya Nagar. In all seven hostels, around 300 girls have come forward for the training sessions, said minority welfare department district officer Javed K Karangi.
“There will be 12 training sessions. The trainer will teach girls, how to bring mental pressure under their control when they go through a bad experience,” said international karate coach Jamuna K Shukla. “These kinds of training will help students to improve their mental and physical stamina and also it will help them to improve their self-confidence,” she added.
Under the guidance of Kalaburagi DC Fouzia Tarannum and zilla panchayat CEO Bhanvar Singh Meena, training classes have been started in Kalaburagi.
