HUBABLLI: The Dharwad district unit of Akhil Karnataka Zilla Janajagruti Vedike has urged people to celebrate Ganesh festival with peace, harmony and in an environment-friendly manner.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Rajanna Koravi, president of the Vedike, said that people should avoid using plaster of Paris idols during the festival. "Artists have been using chemical colours and the practice is affecting the environment directly. People should install Ganesh idols made of pure soil," he said. He also called upon youths to avoid bursting of crackers during the festival as they generate smoke and pollute the environment.

"Organizers should avoid the use of DJ that causes sound pollution. Youths should keep distance from consumption of liquor during the festival," he advised.
