Traders in Hubballi protest as sewage enters shops

HUBBALLI:

Traders

staged a

flash protest

by blocking the road at Tulaja Bhavani temple here on Tuesday after

rain water

and

sewage

gushed into shops at

Dajiban Pet

here on Tuesday.

As it rained heavily last night, rain and sewage water had gushed into most shops. When traders reached their shops in the morning, they found that the whole market was stinking due to stagnant sewage water. “This happened because of the negligence of

HDMC

officials. Though the sewage system is unscientific, officials are not taking any measures to fix it,” they said. They also demanded immediate action against the officials responsible.

Bowing to their pressure, HDMC personnel brought motor pumps and removed water from the shops. The traders alleged that customers were not visiting the area as shops were getting flooded frequently.

Vishwanath Irkal, a shopkeeper said, “Rain water entered my shop for the sixth time this year. Though we have been paying all taxes, our demand has been neglected by officials,” he alleged.

HDMC executive engineer Rajesh Chavan assured a permanent solution for the sewage problem.
