Hubballi: Here is some good news for residents of about 10 areas across the twin cities. Four areas in Hubballi have been getting drinking water daily and three areas are getting water supply once in five days. In Dharwad, three areas are now getting water supply once in three days, instead of six days.Sunil Sali, assistant executive engineer, KUIDFC-KUWSMP, project implementation unit, Hubballi, told TOI that the efforts made for reduction of third-party damages and eradication of technical glitches are the reasons for improvement in water supply. “When it was handed over to L&T, the staff were new and took time to understand the network. Repeated repairs of pipelines, unexpected shutdowns were other hurdles. Officials of HDMC, L&T and KUIDFC adopted strategies to resolve all the issues and now we are getting positive results. Following this, water supply has been increased in 10 areas. We have 973 areas in Hubballi and 523 areas in Dharwad and total number of areas is 1,496 in 82 wards. The water supply frequency will be expanded to other areas in coming days,” he explained.Hanumant Nayak and Sunita, residents of SM Krishna Nagar, Hubballi, asserted that their area was getting water once in 8-9 days earlier but now it is being supplied on a daily basis. We are also sensitised to use water cautiously,” they shared.Rajeshwari Kunnur, a resident of Mangalagatti area, Dharwad, said it was difficult to manage if any unexpected guests visited as water supply was once in 8 days. “Now we are getting water once in three days and there is no issue to welcome any guests,” she shared.Sources in HDMC informed that water supply frequency coming down is a sign of expanding 24x7 water supply.
