Woman kills 5-year-old disabled daughter in Karnataka

DHARWAD: In a dastardly incident, a mother allegedly killed her 5-year-old differently abled daughter by stabbing the child on the neck. The incident was reported from Hugar Oni in Kamalapur here on Thursday evening.

This is the fifth murder in Dharwad in the last six days. Child Sahana was rushed to the district civil hospital but she succumbed to injuries.

Jyothi Hiremath was married to Kallayya of Savadatti and had twin daughters. While Sahana was differently abled, another child is normal. Jyothi allegedly had an affair with a youth Rahul and had refused to stay with her husband. Kallayya after knowing about her affair with Rahul sought divorce and it was granted by a court recently. Police suspect Jyothi decided to do away with Sahana thinking the disabled child could be a burden and an obstacle in her relationship with Rahul. Jyothi and Rahul have been detained.
