Youth hacked to death over old rivalry near Belagavi village

Belagavi: A 22-year-old youth was brutally murdered by a group of assailants in an isolated area on the outskirts of Hunchanatti village in Belagavi taluk, allegedly over old enmity. The deceased has been identified as Rahul Talwar, a resident of Majgaon village.

According to police sources, the accused allegedly lured Rahul to a deserted spot near Hunchanatti village on the pretext of giving him money. Once he reached the location, a group of seven to eight people allegedly attacked him with swords and other sharp weapons.

Rahul sustained grievous injuries to his head and hands in the assault. He was shifted to BIMS Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation suggests that an old rivalry may have led to the murder. A case has been registered at the Belagavi Rural police station, and police have launched a search for the accused. Further investigation is under way.
