12-yr delay in land compensation claim faces high court questions

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court raised concerns about the maintainability of a writ petition seeking compensation for land acquired in 2013 for the expansion of a national highway in Manasapally village near Eturnagaram in Mulugu district. Justice J Sreenivas Rao, who heard the case on Wednesday, questioned the long delay in filing the petition and asked the petitioners' counsel to clarify the maintainability of the case. He adjourned the matter to the next hearing for further examination.The petitioners, Mohammed Madar Saheb and his wife Naboboi, have waited 12 years to claim compensation for the 1.06 acres of land they allege was taken by authorities without payment.The petitioners sought the court's intervention to direct the Mulugu district authorities and the state revenue department to address their representation and compensate them according to the proper procedures. Despite the serious nature of the claim, the court did not issue any notices to the authorities at this stage.The petitioners argued that due to their bedridden condition, they were unaware of the developments and had already submitted a representation to the authorities concerned in Sept 2024, seeking compensation.
