HYDERABAD: A surge in liquor licence applications is flooding the excise department coffers which has received over 50,000 so far with five more days left for the deadline.
While the department is hoping to break past records, it is the high demand for Shamshabad outlets that has the liquor circles abuzz. For 100 shops there are over 3,000 applicants - the highest in the state and Shamshabad is expected to maintain the lead till the application window closes on August 18.
While shops are divided as per 33 districts, Shamshabad is categorised in a separate zone and not included with either Hyderabad or Rangareddy. Shamshabad also covers the expensive Kokapet area in excise department operations.
