HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council were stopped by police from entering the state Assembly on Monday while wearing t-shirts that read 'Adani-Revanth Bhai Bhai.'
The protest aimed to highlight what BRS Working President KT Rama Rao called the 'double standards' of the Congress party regarding their relationship with businessman Gautam Adani.
Rao explained the protest's rationale, stating, 'Double standard of Congress needs to be exposed. On the one hand in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi wears a t-shirt saying Adani and the Prime Minister are one but the fact is Adani and Revanth Reddy are best friends.'
'Therefore, we are exposing the Congress and we will continue to expose them in the House also. If Rahul Gandhi can be allowed in Parliament, there's no reason why we should not be allowed here,' said Rao.
This incident follows escalating tensions between the ruling BRS and the Congress in Telangana. The BRS has been critical of the Congress government's performance, accusing them of failing to meet their promises.
Recent events include the house arrest of BRS leaders Kalvakuntla Kavitha and Harish Rao to prevent their participation in a protest related to the arrest of other BRS leaders. Harish Rao criticized the arrest of BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy, stating, 'BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy was arrested... We condemn this arrest.'
Rao further accused Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy of 'demonic rule.' The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by Reddy against the chief minister and the Intelligence Chief concerning alleged phone tapping of opposition leaders. The BRS has vowed to continue its protests against what they perceive as unjust actions.
