Vikarabad: Congress leaders lodge plaint over EVM ‘tampering’

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Congress leaders on Saturday lodged a complaint with chief electoral officer (CEO) that the Electronic Voting Machines used in the Vikarabad constituency in the recent assembly elections were opened by the officials and district collector-cum-district election officer, Vikarabad on February 1, 2019, thereby resorting to tampering the EVMs.


Gaddam Prasad Kumar, the Congress candidate who lost from Vikarabad assembly constituency, demanded stringent action against the district collector and other officials for allegedly opening the EVMs.

“I have filed a case in the high court against irregularities in the conduct of elections and tampering of EVMs during polling. In such a case, how can the EVMs be tampered with when there is a court case pending. The collector should be immediately relieved of his duties,” Prasad Kumar said in a letter addressed to

Chief Election Commissioner of India

and the Chief Electoral Officer.

and other senior leaders said it was unfair on the part of the officials to have allegedly opened the EVMs on the pretext of preparing the EVMs for the ensuing
