CPI seeks Congress clarity in Telangana on panchayat poll alliance

HYDERABAD: Communist Party of India (CPI), an ally of the ruling Congress, sought clarity from the grand old party over the alliance in the forthcoming panchayat polls. CPI had contested the 2018 and 2023 assembly elections in alliance with Congress.

CPI is planning to contest the rural local body polls in the villages and mandals, where it has a sizeable presence. A delegation of CPI leaders, led by its state secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, met chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday and sought clarity on the alliance in the ensuing rural local body polls.

They asked the CM whether the alliance would be in all the districts. The delegation submitted a list of demands, such as reminding the ruling party of its promise of giving one more MLC seat to CPI.

They also submitted a wish list of places where they wanted Indiramma houses to be sanctioned. However, the Congress leadership told the Left party that the alliance talks would be held once a decision on the panchayat polls date is taken.
