and Mallikharjun Nagar in Malkajgiri were some of the areas that experienced this mess. Residents complained of reeking smell thanks to the sewage water overflowing in their areas.

A resident of Nallagandla tagged municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) minister KT Rama Rao with a written complaint submitted to officials, another resident from Gagan Pahad blamed the officials and politicians for turning a blind eye towards their solving their problems. “Dear @KTRTRS sir, we are facing drainage problem since 20 years. We gave a lot of complaints to GHMC. Even the MLA and corporator are not taking any action. Please, please solve this problem as soon as possible,” tweeted Sai Krishna Reddy.

The residents of Road No 2, Mallikharjuna Nagar, said that sewage pools have formed in their homes due to the downpour. The sewage water has no letout to flow. Apart from lack of a good sewage network, the railway outlet is blocked resulting in sewage pools forming in the area. “Any moment the sewage water would enter our households,” said Naveen Joseph Paul, a resident.

P Anil Raj, executive engineer, GHMC, Malkajgiri, said that they are taking up desilting of stormwater drain in Vishnupuri extension in co-ordination with railway officials. In several GHMC peripheral areas, the sewage lines have been handed over to GHMC by the water board. “To rectify and expand the capacity of these lines, we need crores of rupees,” an official said.
