Ex-IPS officer’s kin accuse domestic help of financial mismanagement, denying medical care
Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills police have registered a criminal case based on a zero FIR transferred from the Cuffe Parade police station in Mumbai over allegations of financial fraud, criminal breach of trust, abuse and neglect linked to the death of a retired IPS officer of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre.According to police, the late IPS officer had retired as an IG in the ‘90s. The complaint was filed by his daughter, an IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre. She alleged that a couple staying at her parents' house in Prashasan Nagar gained control over her parents' finances and household over several years.According to the complaint, the main accused had been associated with the former IPS officer's family since his childhood. The accused's father worked at the construction site of the family home in Prashasan Nagar. The complainant alleged that her parents took care of his living, education expenses and also provided him accommodation at their house. Even after his marriage, the accused continued staying at the complainant's parents' house in Prashasan Nagar. He became closely involved with the former IPS officer and his wife, eventually taking control of bank accounts, cheque books, ATM cards and financial records, especially after the officer's health declined from 2015 onward. The retired officer passed away at his home on Nov 1, 2025 due to ill health. The complainant alleged that between April and Oct 2025, 27.5 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn by the accused from multiple bank accounts belonging to her parents. She also alleged that her father was neglected in his final weeks, denied proper medical care, and left unattended by the accused despite visible suffering. The complaint further claimed that jewellery was missing from the house and the accused had been using the family's house in Yousufguda without paying any rent.Jubilee Hills police said the zero FIR was received on March 12 and was re-registered under Section 316(4) (Criminal breach of trust) read with 3(5) (Common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused and his wife."We will record statements of all the parties involved, including the late IPS officer's widow. Based on the statements and the evidence of bank transactions, we will initiate appropriate legal action," a senior police officer said.
