Gold heist: Robbers slipped past CCTV on canal bunds; motorcycle traced

Hyderabad: The Karimnagar police have traced and seized one of the motorcycles used by the accused in the PMJ jewellery shop robbery, two days after the incident, officials said on Tuesday.Officials said the bike, fitted with a fake number plate, was found on the outskirts of Dharmapuri village, along with a helmet that has been sent for forensic analysis to gather further clues.Police said the accused had stayed in a guest house in Dharmapuri for two days before fleeing to a nearby area, leaving the two-wheeler behind. "Teams have been dispatched to various locations to trace the accused. We have also spoken to the guest house owner. They were staying there like ordinary guests," an official said.Speaking about the route taken by the accused, a senior official said they used interior roads and canal bunds to evade CCTV detection. "However, we have been verifying footage from across the city. At present, it appears they did not stay in the city prior to the incident and likely entered it on the day of the robbery," the official added.Police said they have gathered sufficient leads and are working to apprehend the accused.On May 3, five miscreants entered a jewellery shop and are suspected to have fled with around 1.6 kg of gold jewellery on two motorcycles, one of which has since been seized. The accused also opened fire at the shop staff, injuring four persons.Police said the accused are suspected to be from different states, including Bihar and Maharashtra, and that most of them have a history of involvement in dacoities. The injured are reported to be in a stable condition, while the manhunt for the accused continues.
