HYDERABAD: An earlier feud over a pet Siberian Husky led to a brutal attack on a govt employee in the city's Rahmath Nagar this week. The assault, captured on camera, left three people grievously injured while also wounding the dog. Though the offence took place on May 14, it came to light Thursday when the video went viral.

Srinath is seen walking his dog as a group of men suddenly corner him and beat him with sticks and rods. Even his mother and wife -- who step in to stop the attack - and his pet are not spared. The assault goes on for a couple of minutes while the hapless pet barks from the side and some locals gather to watch the scene.
Based on the complaint filed by the family, Madhura Nagar police booked a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and arrested five accused. "A magistrate sent the accused to judicial remand," said a police officer.

In the footage, pet owner N Srinath was seen getting beaten up with sticks and rods. His wife Swapna and mother were also hit when they tried to stop the attack. The attacker did not spare the dog also.
Police said Srinath and Swapna suffered fractures and had to undergo surgeries. Their pet needed treatment for bleeding injuries, including one on the head.
Turns out that Srinath, a section assistant with Telugu Academy had a run-in with his neighbour L Dhananjay's family on May 8 when the former's pet, Blue, rushed out of the house towards a couple standing next door.
While Srinath immediately went after his pet and took the dog in his custody, infuriated neighbours accused him of provoking the dog to attack them. They allegedly assaulted him and his wife Swapna and a relative. Both parties filed a complaint and counter-complaint the same day. "After registering two FIRs, police asked both the families to stay away from each other," Srinath's brother Madhu told TOI. He alleged the recent attack was planned by accused to avenge the earlier fight. "On Tuesday (May 14), they saw that my brother was alone and attacked him," Madhu added. When the video went viral, some netizens took to X to express their concerns.
"Dear @hydcitypolice won't tolerate this. Can't beat up a dog. I will personally take up issue with courts if no strict action is ensured," read one Deepak Gandhi's X post.
