family of Major Taher Hussain Khan
, who was awarded a
Sena Medal
(gallantry) posthumously, has been granted Rs 30 lakh by the state government. Major Taher Hussain of Ghatkesar, who served in the 202 Army Aviation Squadron, died on February 10, 2015, in a helicopter crash while conducting rescue operations during Jammu and Kashmir floods. He was conferred the gallantry award posthumously on Independence Day in 2016.
Following the Sena Medal conferred on him, his widow Naseem Sultana was given a monetary grant of Rs 23,250 on recommendation of the collector of Medchal-Malkajgiri in November 2017. The government, in 2018, enhanced the cash award for Sena Medal to Rs 30 lakh. Following this, the collector wrote to the government on July 18, 2018, stating that Naseem Sultana should be given an enhanced cash award.
