Hand over Sagar, Srisailam projects to Krishna board: Centre to T’gana & AP

Hyderabad: Despite opposition from Telangana to hand over Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), the Jal Shakti ministry has directed both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to hand over 15 prioritised components and outlets of Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam to KRMB within a month.
The ministry also asked both the states to discuss and finalise the protocols for handing over the prioritised components and come up with an action plan within a week.
The Jal Shakti ministry held a meeting with irrigation officials of both states on January 17 and released minutes of the meeting on Friday. Officials of KRMB were also present at the meeting.
The Centre said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will continue to take care of the security of Nagarjuna Sagar dam site and that irrigation officials of the two states will be allowed to enter the dam only after seeking due permission of KRMB. “Maintenance works of critical nature that are to be required on Nagarjuna Sagar dam by both the states, with respect to their respective sides, will be permitted on a written request,” the minutes of the meeting said.
As both states were not releasing funds to KRMB, the Centre had asked them to release the funds for this financial year and arrears. It was decided to hold a review meeting after 15 days.
