Karthikeya 2 Wins Best Telugu Film At National Film Awards

HYDERABAD: Actor Nikhil Siddhartha was on cloud nine giving credit to director Chandoo Mondeti after their 2022 mystery action-adventure film Karthikeya 2 was adjudged the Best Telugu Film at the 70th National Film Awards for the year 2022 on Friday.

The film revolves around the main protagonist, Karthikeya, a doctor who, trapped in a web of conspiracies and betrayal, must retrieve a mythological treasure and clear his name. A sequel to Karthikeya released in 2014, Karthikeya 2 emerged not only as a sleeper hit but also the sixth highest grossing Telugu films in 2022.

For his superb direction of Karthikeya, Chandoo was nominated for Best Director-Telugu at the 62nd Filmfare Awards South.

Actor Jr NTR quickly congratulated the team of Karthikeya 2 soon after the national award was announced. "Congratulations to Chandoo Mondeti, actor Nikhil, and the entire team of Karthikeya 2 on winning the National Award for the Best Telugu Film. Also, my heartfelt congratulations to all the National Award winners across the nation for their well-deserved recognition," Jr NTR said on X.

Actor Nikhil responded, thanking Jr NTR for his wishes. "Anna, our team is thrilled," he gushed.

Actor Nikhil put out a video on social media thanking the jury for selecting the film for the national award. "The film's entire team deserves all credit for the success of the film," he said, particularly crediting Chandoo, referring to him as brother, for directing the film. Chandoo in fact made his debut with Karthikeya 10 years ago and his latest directorial venture Thandel is set to release in Oct.

"Children and elders watched our Karthikeya 2 movie across the country in several languages in which it was released. It was a hit thanks to the audience," Nikhil said. The cast had Nikhil, Anupama Parameswaran, Anupam Kher and Aditya Menon.

The film was produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and People Media Factory.

"The blessings of Lord Krishna continue to be bestowed upon us," Abhishek Agarwal Arts said in a statement after the national award announcement was made on Friday.

Union coal minister G Kishan Reddy congratulated the winners of the 70th National Film Awards. "Special accolades to the team of Karthikeya 2 for their outstanding achievement as the Best Telugu Film," he said.
