The accused used three mobile phones while committing the offence and investigators say the woman and two males had camped in the city for three days before the offence took place on Monday, near NEXA showroom, Kukatpally. Police suspect that in all probability, they were given information of the movement of Abhishek Agarwal, the victim, by some insiders.

Polices said the victim, Abhishek Agarwal, a Basheerbagh-based jeweller, started his journey from Basheerbagh with 3.5kg gold jewellery samples to show them to Malabar's jewellery's Kukatpally and Chandanagar branch. The accused followed Abhishek's car from Malabar, Kukatpally, when the victim was on his way to Malabar, Chandanagar. Officials believe that the accused reached Kukatpally somewhere from Miyapur side and seem to be a professional gang as they took a lot of precautions.

However, the role of Ashish, secretary of the victim, who was present at the time of offence, was ruled out as he had no information that his employer was carrying 3.5kg gold in the Skoda car.

On Monday, the theft was committed after Agarwal had a flat tyre and the victim was busy replacing the tyre.
