HYDERABAD: A division bench of Telangana high court on Friday initiated criminal contempt proceedings against advocate B Balamukund Rao for threatening a sitting judge with a legal notice. He said he would take legal action against her for not agreeing with him over his allegations against the MD of Telangana Tourism Development Corporation.

The advocate was making allegations against the MD for not renewing the contract service of certain employees. Justice P Madhavi Devi found his threats unacceptable and recused from hearing his case.

Later, the HC studied the issue and sought to know from the advocate as to why a criminal contempt case should not be initiated against him. Advocate General BS Prasad informed the court that this advocate displayed similar unruly behaviour in the courts of two other judges also. The bench gave the advocate one last chance to withdraw the notice he issued to the judge and to offer apology by February 17. After that he has to face penal consequences.
