Man held for plotting wife’s murder, Bihar gang hired for ₹2L
Hyderabad: Ten days after a 36-year-old woman was brutally murdered in IDA Bollaram, police arrested her husband and one of the hired killers, uncovering what they described as a carefully planned conspiracy involving a gang from Bihar.
According to IDA Bollaram police, the prime accused, Anil Kumar, allegedly orchestrated the murder of his wife, Mina Devi, after developing deep resentment over financial disputes within the family.
During questioning, investigators learnt that Mina Devi had been taking away a substantial portion of Anil Kumar’s salary and sending the money to her parents in Bihar. “This made him bear a grudge against Mina Devi and he decided to kill her. He contacted Rinku Singh, who operates a gang in Bihar. Rinku was promised ₹2 lakh for executing the murder,” police said.
Police said Rinku Singh subsequently enlisted the help of his associates, Ranjan and Neeraj, to carry out the killing. Ranjan and Neeraj travelled to Hyderabad and met Anil Kumar on May 29.
As part of the plan, Anil Kumar allegedly took Mina Devi on a motorcycle ride and deliberately stopped the vehicle on the pretext of a breakdown. The hired assailants then attacked the couple, fatally slitting Mina Devi’s throat. To deflect suspicion, Anil Kumar staged the incident as a roadside attack by unidentified assailants and projected himself as a victim by sustaining slash injuries.
Based on Anil Kumar’s complaint, police initially registered a case against unidentified persons. However, investigators grew suspicious after noticing inconsistencies in his statements during the probe. His changing versions prompted a deeper investigation into his possible involvement.
After sustained interrogation, Anil Kumar allegedly confessed to conspiring to murder his wife. Acting on his disclosure, police tracked down and arrested Ranjan from West Champaran in Bihar.
Both Anil Kumar and Ranjan have been remanded in judicial custody. Police teams are continuing efforts to trace and arrest the remaining accused, Neeraj and Rinku Singh, who are currently absconding.
