HYDERABAD: The eighth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court on Tuesday acquitted the president of Majlis
Bachao Tehreek
(MBT) Majeedullah Khan Farhath and others in a hate speech case after the prosecution failed to prove charges against the accused.
On June 12, 2015, MBT organised a protest public meeting at Chanchalguda Junior College against the killing of five undertrial accused, including
Viqaruddin Ahmed
and his associates at Alair in Nalgonda in an alleged encounter. The Samajwadi party legislator from
Maharashtra Abu Asim Azmi
was invited as chief guest for the meeting.
The public meeting was held at Chanchalguda, that falls under the Rein Bazaar police station. Since the meeting continued beyond the stipulated time, the police registered a case against Abu Asim Azmi, MBT leader Khayam Khan, Majeedullah Khan Farhath, former corporator
Amjedullah Khan Khalid
and others under IPC sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity among two groups), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant). The names of
Azmi
and Khayam Khan were deleted from the chargesheet as their speeches were not found to be provocative.
The trial was conducted against Majeedullah Khan Farhath and Amjedullah Khan. Since the prosecution could not prove charges against them they were acquitted. After their acquittal, the MBT leaders alleged that the South Zone police had foisted a false case against them under the pressure of political bigwigs. They said the party would continue to raise their voice against the injustice caused to the community.
