Medtronic injects $60m for 1st IT centre outside US in city
Hyderabad: Medtech giant Medtronic is pumping $60 million in setting up a new global IT centre (GIT) at Hyderabad. The new GIT is Medtronic’s first large-scale IT facility outside the US and will create about 300 new jobs over the next three to five years.The company has already hired 60 people for the new GIT, which is spread over 65,000 sq ft and includes labs for automation work, Rashmi Kumar, senior vice president & CIO, Medtronic told TOI here on Wednesday.The GIT will be housed within the MEIC, which has grown to five floors with a footprint of over 3 lakh sq ft that will increase to 3.5 lakh sq ft by December 2024, Medtronic vice president & MEIC site leader Divya Joshi said. “This new centre will be pivotal in supporting innovations, enhancing our global IT capabilities, and delivering top-notch tech-driven healthcare solutions,” Joshi added.Inaugurating the new facility along with US consul general Jennifer Larson, Telangana IT & industries minister D Sridhar Babu said reputed companies like Medtronic doubling down on their existing investments in the state underscores the vibrant ecosystem in the state. The company has already invested around $500 million in setting up its Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Centre (MEIC) in Hyderabad since 2020.
