HYDERABAD: Be it the vibrant IT sector, delectable food, warmth of locals or the comforting Dakhani language Hyderabad offers multiple reasons to the migrant community, to make it their home.
For many from the northern parts of the country, especially, it is the language that's not only made them stay glued to the city, but also make it their second home, over time. The relationship, they admit, is special.
"Language certainly one of the things that prompted us to settle here," said Atulya Nidhi, 40-year-old professional working in the healthcare sector. He has been living in Hyderabad for the last 12 years.
Originally from Bihar, the decision for him and his wife, Dr Sneha Shukla, to make the city their base was a practical and well-planned move.
"While there were no specifications for my husband on where we should eventually build our home, for me, I initially had concerns about it being in south India largely because of the vast difference in language. As someone from north India, I was anxious," said Dr Sneha working with WHO, while sharing how all her apprehensions melted away when she finally moved to Hyderabad post her wedding. "When I realised that language was not a barrier at all and there was no real need to learn a new language to adapt and do day-to-day things, I was at peace. It was a major plus," the 38-year-old added.
The lucrative deals on property, lesser traffic - when compared to metros like Bengaluru - and better infrastructure were bonus for the couple living in Kukatpally with their infant daughter.
"When we were at the planning stage of purchasing a house here, we realised that our friends in other cities were unhappy with the high costs had to pay, which wouldn't have given them eventual returns. In that sense, Hyderabad then (2016) did not have expensive housing. Apart from that the lack of major traffic problems and getting to work within 30 to 45 minutes were the added benefits of living here," said Atulya.
