Nalgonda civic chief loses no-trust motion

Hyderabad: Nalgonda municipal chairman Mandadi Saidi Reddy of BRS on Monday failed to prove his majority during the floor test conducted during the council meeting. The meeting was convened by the district authorities following the no-confidence motion moved by some councillors. While 41 councillors favoured the no-confidence motion againt Saidi Reddy, five BRS councillors opposed it. Some councillors of BJP and ex-officio members stayed away from the floor test.In the municipal elections held in 2019, out of the total of 48 wards in Nalgonda, 21 wards were won by BRS, 19 by Congress, six by the BJP and AIMIM and independent one each.Before the November 30 assembly elections last year, 15 BRS councillors joined Congress. They were earlier shifted to a camp reportedly in Hyderabad. The Congress with a strength of 34 councillors succeeded in ensuring the no-confidence motion against Saidi Reddy at the council meeting.A separate council meeting would be convened to elect the new municipal chairperson soon and Congress is likely to secure the chairman post, sources said.
