HYDERABAD: A special investigation team (SIT) of the state police has served notices to Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) president Thushar Vellappally and another person of interest, Jaggu Kottilil in connection with a case relating to the alleged MLA poaching bid in Telangana, police sources said.
The team led by Nalgonda SP Rema Rajeshwari has been conducting investigations in the state before serving the notices. The duo has been directed to appear before the special team in Hyderabad before November 21. The notices were served under Section 41A of the CrPC, sources said.
The notice was served at Thushar's house at Kanichukulangara in Alappuzha, Kerala on Wednesday. He was not home at the time. Thushar's BDJS is an BJP ally in Kerala.
The SIT was in Kochi mainly to investigate the dealings of one Jaggu Kottilil who was working as a senior official with the Amrita Hospital in Kochi. The notice for Jaggu was affixed at his quarters in Kochi under Cheranellore police station limits.
Kochi City Deputy police commissioner (Law and Order) S Sasidharan said that the Telangana team had come to Kochi, and they were in the city till at least Wednesday night. He said that the team had earlier searched Jaggu's office at Amrita Hospital and that they haven't shared the investigation details with the city police since it was ultimately their case.
A spokesperson with Amrita Hospital, meanwhile, said that he doesn't have anything to say on the matter since it was something concerning an individual and not the organisation while adding that they were fully cooperating with the investigation.
Meanwhile, Kochi police said as per their information the Telangana cops collected some materials following the search at Jaggu's office.
"We only provided a few policemen to assist them and had no direct connection with the investigation. The notice was affixed at his room in the quarters on Wednesday. They have collected statements as well from some persons relating to the issue," said an official with the Kochi police.
