Release pending fee reimbursement of over Rs 1,600 crore by month-end, professional colleges urge Telangana govt
Hyderabad: The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) on Wednesday demanded the govt to release the pending fee reimbursement of Rs 1,650 crore, for which tokens were already issued, by June 30.
Managements of professional colleges, who are set to receive a total of about Rs 7,000 crore from the govt towards fee reimbursement dues for the past three years, said that colleges — including those offering engineering, pharmacy, MBA and law courses — are facing an uncertain future due to mounting debts.
The Federation has urged the govt to release fee reimbursement dues up to the 2023–24 academic year within three months and those for the 2024–25 academic year by Dec 30, 2025.
“By the end of June, we hope the govt releases around Rs 1,600 crore to professional colleges, with the remainder to be released by the end of the year,” said G Nagaiah, general secretary, FATHI.
At its first council meeting, the Federation resolved to meet with chief minister A Revanth Reddy and other ministers to explain the problems faced by management, faculty and students due to the delay in releasing reimbursement payments. They also decided to meet with all political parties, student organisations, parents and students to raise this issue with the govt.
“From the 2025-26 academic year onwards, the govt should release the reimbursement amount to colleges in four instalments and clear all dues by the end of the academic year,' said Ramesh Babu N, chairman of the federation.
