Restaurant staff, customers spar over ‘missing’ chicken pieces in biryani in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A dispute over missing chicken pieces in a biryani order escalated into a violent clash at a restaurant in Bharathnagar, late on Thursday night, leading to complaints and counter-complaints at the Sanathnagar police station. In his complaint, 21-year-old car driver P Arun alleged that he was assaulted by the hotel owner and staff after questioning them about the absence of chicken pieces in the biryani packets.According to Sanathnagar inspector D Ashok, the incident occurred around 12.30 am. Arun, a resident of HP Road in Bharathnagar, said he had asked his friend Dileep to purchase a jumbo chicken biryani pack from Victoria Hotel. However, as only four single chicken biryani packs were available, Dileep bought the four packets. Arun claimed that upon reaching home, they found the biryani packets had no chicken pieces.Arun then returned to the hotel along with his friends Dileep, Rakesh and Shiva to confront the owner, Mohin. An argument broke out, during which Mohin and his staff allegedly abused and attacked Arun with a large cooking spoon, causing a head injury. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Kukatpally, where he received eight stitches."Arun also alleged that during the altercation, the accused damaged motorcycles belonging to him and his friends that were parked outside the hotel," Sanathnagar inspector said.Meanwhile, the hotel owner Mohsin and his staff filed a counter-complaint, alleging that Arun and his friends created a ruckus after being told the hotel had closed. They claimed the group vandalised property, threw sofas and kicked doors in the AC dining area, and later attacked them with stones and sticks, causing injuries.Police served notices to both parties and registered cases under Sections 118(2) (causing grievous hurt), 352 (intentional insults) and 324(2) r/w 3(5) (mischief and criminal acts by a group) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
