Special NIA judge resigns after delivering Mecca Masjid verdict

HYDERABAD: K

Ravinder Reddy

, the fourth additional metropolitan sessions judge of Hyderabad, submitted resignation on Monday.

He was the judge who pronounced the

Mecca Masjid blasts case

judgment. And since his resignation news came hours after the

Mecca Masjid

judgment, there was speculation about the timing of his judgment.

Sources at

Hyderabad Criminal Courts

complex say that he cited personal reasons for his resignation. He was also nearing retirement. He urged the judicial authorities to accept his resignation and went on 15-day leave in the meantime.

Notwithstanding the rumours that are doing their rounds about allegations of complaints against him, it can be recalled, he was the leader of the judges' revolt two years ago opposing the retention of AP-origin district judges in Telangana. He was seeking immediate bifurcation of subordinate judiciary and also the high court itself among AP and Telangana. But a section of lawyers is alleging that they made a complaint to the high court about his corrupt practices and this resignation is a fall out of those complaints.
