UPI transfer nails robbers, 3 arrested

Hyderabad: A UPI payment helped the Cyberabad police crack a robbery case and arrest a three-member gang involved in the offence at Bharat Nagar on Monday.
The accused offered to drop the victim, 25, from MGBS to RC Puram and midway, they diverted the vehicle towards Sanathnagar railway station and robbed him.
During the process, the accused made a UPI transfer of 14,000 to their numbers using the victim's mobile phone. Using this clue, police nabbed the accused.
The accused identified as Thakur Surender Singh, an auto driver, and Biradar Santosh and Shaik Hujair Baba, both drivers.
"A knife and an auto rickshaw were seized from the accused, and they were sent to judicial remand," assistant commissioner of police, Balanagar, G Hanumantha Rao said.
According to police, the victim, a private employee, was travelling from Kurnool to the city and arrived at MGBS in the early hours of Sunday. At the bus station, he hired an auto rickshaw to go to his home. The driver diverted the vehicle to Sanathnagar railway station, where his two friends were already waiting.
All three of them beat the victim and threatened him at knifepoint to open his UPI account. When he opened the application, they transferred 14,000 into one of their UPI accounts. When they demanded more money, he called a friend and made him transfer 200 to the accused. Later, they threatened him with dire consequences, abandoned him at the spot, and fled.
