NEW DELHI: Telangana assembly witnessed dramatic scenes after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs staged a protest wearing black clothes and handcuffs to demand justice for the farmers of Lagcherla.
The BRS MLAs sought release of farmer Heerya Naik, who was arrested in connection with violent incidents in Lagacherla.
The incident that sparked the protest occurred on December 13, when Armed Reserve (AR) constables placed handcuffs on Heerya Naik after arresting him. Naik, who suffers from a cardiac condition, was later escorted to a hospital for a medical examination, with two AR constables accompanying him while he remained restrained.
A recording showing Naik in handcuffs as he was transported in a police vehicle and receiving medical treatment went viral on social media, drawing widespread outrage.
In response to the incident, senior prison authorities at the Sangareddy district jail conducted an inquiry, held the jailer responsible, and subsequently suspended him.
In an internal order, the jailer sought services of Balanagar AR personnel instead of Vikarabad authorities.
Meanwhile, sources in Telangana police claim the incident was a conspiracy engineered by a key accused in the case, who is in judicial remand.
