Expect solution to violence in Manipur in three months: CM N Biren Singh

GUWAHATI: Manipur CM N Biren Singh on Friday said a resolution to the ongoing crisis in the state would be reached within two to three months.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the state-level International Yoga Day function at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal, Biren said resolving the conflict in Manipur is of paramount importance for the Modi 3.0 govt. “Home minister Amit Shah is proactively engaged, conducting high-security meetings and amassing essential details to devise an action plan. I anticipate that a solution will be attained within two to three months,” Singh said.

He highlighted a notable decrease in incidents of violence across Manipur, emphasising that out of the 14 months since May last year during which incidents were documented, the actual crisis persisted for a mere six to seven months. “Violence is ubiquitous, and it has diminished notably in Manipur. Notwithstanding incidents in certain areas, educational institutions and commercial establishments throughout the state have resumed operations, signifying a restoration of normalcy,” Biren said.

Biren also addressed allegations of unabated instigation of violence in the state, alluding to external factors as the genesis of the crisis. He said, “The unrest in the NE is attributable to the influx and drug menace emanating from areas beyond the region. Addressing the situation will be more manageable once the route is ascertained.”

The Manipur CM acknowledged the challenging situation the state is currently facing due to ethnic conflicts. He described the present circumstances in Manipur as “a crucial juncture for the indigenous population and their prospects.”

“We shouldn’t allow emotions and politics to drive our actions, and in the process divert from the core issues. We know we are tired... but we have to endure it for a few more days. We cannot be happy without going through a tough phase,” he said. The violence has claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands so far.
