Guest house for hill tribal chiefs in Imphal to be opened soon: Biren

Imphal: CM Biren Singh on Friday said the guest house for chiefs of tribal communities in the hills, whose construction in Imphal is complete, would be inaugurated by the end of this year. Biren also announced that his government, as Christmas and New Year gifts to the people of Manipur, would set up a library hall each for all 33/34 recognised ethnic tribes across the state. Speaking during the curtain-raiser to the commissioning of INS Imphal, the stealth guided-missile destroyers of the Navy at Kangla fort in Imphal city, Biren said ever since the BJP-led government came to power in the state in 2017 it wanted to construct the guest house for the hill chiefs.“Hill people and valley people are inseparable politically and historically. We are all brothers and sisters. So whenever they come down here in Imphal, they look for hotels to stay,” he said.

Missile destroyer 'Imphal' to be commissioned into Indian Navy on December 26

The Indian Navy is set to commission the Imphal, the third Visakhapatnam-class guided-missile destroyer, on December 26. Constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) using indigenous DMR 249A steel, the Imphal is one of the largest missile destroyers ever made. Equipped with advanced anti-submarine weapons and sensors, including the Sonar Humsa NG and ASW Rocket Launchers, it aims to strengthen regional stability in the Indian Ocean. State in talks with experts as orange production dips in Hills

Mandarin orange production in Darjeeling and Kalimpong Hills is declining due to pest attacks, shortage of saplings, and loss of fertility. The outbreak of dieback disease has led to a 10-15% decrease in production. The state government is working with experts to address the crisis affecting around 10,000 farmers. Last year, production dropped from 50-52 metric tonnes to 39 metric tonnes, prompting a rejuvenation project. Currently, 60% of orange plants are new, and the government is identifying high-yielding plants. Business entrepreneurs are encouraged to set up processing units in the Hills.
