Gunmen attack state JD-U youth president

Imphal: Tension gripped the Waithou area in Thoubal district late Saturday when unidentified armed men fired at Manipur unit JD(U) president, Bhaktaraj Thiyam. He, however, escaped unhurt.Thiyam was going towards Imphal in his car after meeting a relative in Thoubal along NH-2 when a jeep chased and stopped him at the Waithou area at 8.15pm.“Three unknown armed persons alighted from the vehicle and asked me at gunpoint whether I am Bhaktaraj, Manipur unit youth president of JD(U). Sensing the critical situation, I replied in the negative,” Thiyam said.“Before long, the men began searching my vehicle and took some money I had kept inside a black polythene bag. Soon after, they fired some bullets at the windshield and the rear portion of my car,” he said, adding that he escaped unhurt in the attack.The trio then jumped inside the jeep and sped away towards Thoubal, Thiyam said while condemning the attack in the strongest terms. Stating that he has no enmity with anyone, Thiyam appealed to the attackers to spell out the motive behind the attack.

Ambulance driver killed, another injured in attack by unidentified men in Navi Mumbai

An unidentified group attacked an ambulance driver in Navi Mumbai, resulting in his death and injuries to another person. The incident occurred in the Nerul area when four unknown individuals intercepted the ambulance near D Y Patil Hospital. One of the culprits assaulted the driver with a bamboo stick while the other damaged the vehicle. The injured person managed to escape and inform the owner. The ambulance driver was found dead with a neck stab wound and a case has been registered for murder.

Rent-a-cab plunges into Tiracol river, driver escapes unhurt

A tourist lost control of a rental car and it plunged into the river at the Tiracol ferry ramp. The driver, Druv Mittal, was rescued by the river navigation department personnel. The locals used mooring ropes to pull the completely submerged rental vehicle out of the water. This incident follows a similar one at Sarmanas ferry point where a taxi rolled into the river. Mittal, who was coming from Tiracol Fort, expressed gratitude to the locals for saving his life and retrieving the car.
