Have lunch with displaced in relief camps on Aug 15: Biren to ministers

Imphal: Manipur CM Biren Singh on Saturday appealed to the ministers and MLAs of the state to organise and have lunch together with the people displaced by the ongoing conflict in their relief camps this Independence Day. He also asked the elected representatives to talk to them and address their grievances.Biren was speaking during “Tiranga Concerts”, a part of Centre’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event was organised by the state art and culture department at Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound here. Speaking on the occasion, the CM urged the people of the state to volunteer in cleaning the statues of freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives for their motherland and pay them floral tributes, according to an official statement. He said the freedom and life of dignity that we enjoy today are because of the selfless sacrifices made by our great leaders.Biren said a sense of nationalism and patriotism was aroused after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014. “It was PM Modi who took yoga to the international stage through his address at the United Nation’s General Assembly,” he added. He said under the initiative of PM Modi, G20 events were held across the country, when India took the presidency of the summit. “Delegates from across the world visited various corners of the country. It brought a sense of belongingness in people,” he added. Initiatives like the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign are a continuation of such efforts, he said. Biren asked the DGP to conduct a motorbike rally on August 15 with the mass participation of youth. He also appealed to the people of Manipur to participate in rallies, street plays, marathons, painting competitions organised under the campaign. Appreciating the principal, officials, and students of colleges in the state for singing the national anthem and state song during morning assembly, he said this too has instilled the consciousness of unity, discipline and nationalism in the people.On the challenges being faced by India due to the current geopolitical situation, he stressed the need to make the country strong to successfully tackle the difficulties that lie ahead.

The state cabinet implemented the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan from August 9 to 15, hoisting the tricolor on 2.5 crore houses and establishments. Various programs were organized, and different departments were designated as nodal agencies. In 2023, free flags were not provided, and citizens had to use a previous year's flag or buy one for Rs 25.
