Manipur HC gets new chief justice

Imphal: Justice Siddharth Mridul was administered the oath of office as the seventh chief justice of Manipur high court by governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan’s Darbar Hall here on Friday in the presence of chief minister N Biren Singh.Biren Singh congratulated the new chief justice and said it was a “significant moment for the judiciary in Manipur”.On July 6, Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, led the Supreme Court Collegium in proposing Justice Mridul, the senior-most judge of Delhi high court, to be the Chief Justice of Manipur high court.On the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony, Biren Singh, while reacting to the report that “police personnel posted in Moreh town were not assigned appropriate orders and duties”, clarified that under the Tengnoupal district superintendent of police, almost all the police personnel have already been successfully deployed for the maintenance of law and order and they are functioning well and smoothly.

Siddharth Mridul, a judge at the Delhi High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. During his farewell speech, Mridul emphasized the importance of judges being "innovative" when dealing with political values and social ideals. Speakers at the event expressed confidence that Manipur would benefit from Mridul's presence and predicted that his appointment would bring peace to the region. Mridul, who has been a judge for over 15 years, urged senior members of the legal profession to support and mentor young lawyers.

SC slaps Rs 5 lakh cost on man for challenging 'defective oath' taken by chief justice of Bombay HC

The Supreme Court has fined a man Rs 5 lakh for filing a frivolous PIL claiming that the oath taken by the Bombay high court chief justice was "defective". The court stated that such objections cannot be raised as the oath was administered by the Governor and the correct person had taken it. The court also emphasized that such frivolous PILs consume the court's time and infrastructure and imposed exemplary costs. If the cost is not deposited within four weeks, it will be collected as arrears of land revenue.

Manipur's Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, has stated that the ethnic conflict in the state is being manipulated by illegal immigrants seeking to divide the region. Singh emphasized the importance of the Inner Line Permit system in preventing the influx of such individuals. Both the state government and the Central government agree that the crisis is caused by illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh. Singh also noted that Manipur's history is closely tied to the Kangla palace, and those who are not indigenous often distort this history.
