Besides an AK series HK rifle with two magazines, a 9mm pistol, one double-barrelled gun, one Chinese hand grenade and a large number of bullets, the team also confiscated military jungle boots, camouflage uniform and a car from the possession of the militants, Imphal East SP Haobijam Jogeshchandra told reporters at his office conference hall.

The operation was launched after security forces received intelligence regarding the presence of the rebels at the K Shoronphai village in Andro Torongthel, the SP said.

A combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and six Assam Rifles troops rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and carried out a massive counterinsurgency operation from 4pm.

The arrested militants have been identified as Lenminthang Baite (41), S Jamal Vaiphei (34), Jamkhothang Vaiphei (50) and Thangrijoy Baite (36) - all residents of

Churachandpur district

- and Mangku Haokip (19) and Momon Baite (19), from Imphal East.

USRA is one of the twenty Kuki-Chin-Mizo militant groups that had signed a tripartite suspension of operation agreement with the state government and the Centre.
