IMPHAL: Suspected militants opened fire on Mongbung Meitei village in Jiribam district, Manipur, on Saturday, police reported. Armed men attacked the village from nearby hilltops and thick forests, prompting village volunteers to retaliate.
A police officer said, "Several women, children, and elderly are being evacuated to safer places," quoting villagers. Security forces have been dispatched to control the situation, and no casualties have been reported so far.
Mongbung Meitei village, located 7 km from the district headquarters, has experienced multiple attacks from armed men since violence erupted in June this year.
