Baneshwar Dham to get Rs 12.32 cr facelift

Indore: The city's historic Baneshwar Dham is set for a massive revamp. Modelled after Ujjain's Shri Mahakal Lok, the new ‘Baneshwar Lok' will be developed at a cost of Rs 12.32 crore.The foundation stone was laid by state cabinet minister and local MLA Kailash Vijayvargiya on Friday. The project, spearheaded by Indore Development Authority, aims to revitalize the existing dilapidated structures and transform the 17,476 sqm precinct into a modern spiritual destination.At present, the site faces challenges such as poor campus planning and encroachment. The rejuvenation strategy focuses on ‘physical regeneration' and ‘image building,' aiming to turn Baneshwar Dham into a touristic landmark.IDA CEO Parikshit Jhade said that key features of the proposed ‘Baneshwar Lok' include a comprehensive overhaul of the temple precinct by constructing a massive and artistic welcome arch inspired by traditional Indian architectural excellence along with installation of a majestic statue of Lord Shiva and beautifully crafted wall murals depicting religious themes. "The plan includes restoration of the main temple and historical Baneshwar Kund, alongside the construction of a pravachan hall (sermon hall) and yagya shaala," he said.The CEO added that the project would be executed in two primary phases ---building works, temple restoration and site development costing Rs 7.89 crore in first phase and public plaza, administrative building, shops, and assembly hall costing Rs 2.54 crore in second phase.
