INDORE: The

Central Jail inmates

whose hands had once wielded knives to commit heinous crimes were seen hitting sixes with bats at the

Jail Premier League

that concluded on December 2.

At the second edition of JPL started by the jail authorities, teams of jail birds from different barracks were seen sweating out while batting and bowling.

“When we announced that

Central Jail

will hold JPL this year, the

inmates

were more than happy. The enthusiasm amongst them about

cricket

was such that almost all of them were ready to give their names as players for their particular barracks,” said Central Jail superintendent Ramesh Chandra Arya while speaking to TOI.

Arya said that ward-wise selections of inmates were done on the basis of their performance. “Best players were selected and of the seven wards in Central Jail, eight teams were formed,” said Arya.

The small ground in ward number 5 was converted into a stadium with a proper pitch for the players. “We also got special white t-shirts and lowers made for the players for the match,” said Arya.

The inmates, who were serving life term, showcased outstanding performance at the sport.

“It was an excellent experience for all of us. The inmates were also very happy and content after the league,” said jailer Lalit Dixit.
