IMC to start underground cabling work at MG Road

ductwork for cables and other lines in MG Road area of the city.

said the project would be implemented between Bada Ganpati square and Krishnapura Chhatri. This project would help them make the area free from all electric poles, overhead cables and electricity lines.

“The underground cablings will be in place of overhead electric lines and it will cover one of the main areas chosen under Smart City project,” they said.

They said that they have floated tenders for the project and work for the same is expected to begin within a month or so. A substation will be installed in the area and an estimate sum of Rs23 crore would be spent on the work.

Smart city project’s executive engineer Mahesh Sharma said that they will be finalizing an agency for the same soon.

“We have invited tender in five different groups to ensure completion of both underground work and installation of substation simultaneously,” he said.

The civic body after removal of electric poles and overhead cables, will install smart poles and lights in the area.

While civic body has already completed underground cabling work in Mhow Naka, Biyabani, Malganj, Loharpatti, Tori Corner, Sarwate and Gangwal, it also plans to take up the same project between Rajmohalla Square and Nandlalpura Square on Jawahar Marg road.
