Man sets fire to bizman’s house & shop four times in a year over old dispute, arrested

Khargone: A person who allegedly set fire to the house and attached shop of a bussinessman four times in a year under Bhagwanpura police station area of Khargone district, was arrested by a special team on Sunday.Khargone superintendent of police Dharmaraj Meena said that Mayur Malviya was arrested in connection with several arson incidents at the house of businessman Rajendra Gupta in Mohana village. The accused was produced before the court on Sunday, from where he was sent to judicial custody.Rajendra Gupta complained that on March 29, 2024, and March 12, 2025, his house and shop attached to it were set on fire. In the two major arson incidents, all the goods in the shop were gutted. Apart from this, two similar incidents occurred, prompting the people of the Gupta community to submit a memorandum to the SP. The SP said, "A special police team was formed to crack such unusual incidents, and people having enmity with the complainant were kept under suspicion. Apart from this, discussions were held with family members, relatives, nearby people and friends."He said that about 100 CCTV footages were scanned, in which a two-wheeler was seen near Rajendra Gupta's house, and on that basis, the police identified Mayur Malviya.During interrogation, Malviya told the police that about two-and-a-half-years ago, he lived on rent in front of Rajendra Gupta's house. One day, there was a dispute between Rajendra and his wife over some issue. As the dispute escalated, he went with his mother, Pushpa, to convince Rajendra Gupta and his wife. Citing that it was a family dispute, Gupta threw him and his mother out.Mayur told the police that he felt very bad about this incident and, to take revenge, he secretly set fire to the house and shop several times.Bhagwanpura police station in-charge Kailash Chauhan said that constable Hiralal Dhangar played an important role in revealing this incident.
