Indore: No cases of child marriage, sex determination lodged

INDORE: No case has been lodged throughout the year in

relating to sex determination of child,

,

illegal abortions

,

child marriage

and indecent representation of women, district prosecution department records say.

The special acts made to prevent these practices have reported zero institution of

cases

in Indore between January 1, 2018 and November 30, 2018.

Under the sections of Indian Penal Code as well, no cases have been lodged for feticide, publication of obscene books, parading women naked and some others.

However, at the sessions court, highest number of cases have been registered under IPC followed by cases of crimes against minors. The number of new cases lodged under the IPC is 6413 and the crime against minors is 2852.

Under IPC, the highest number of cases has been lodged under sections relating to sexual harassment- 354 of IPC, which is closely followed by cases of voluntarily causing hurt. Dowry harassment cases are the third highest registered cases within Indore municipal limits in 2018, at 155.

Under the POCSO Act 476 new cases have been lodged in the above mentioned period, while 108 cases under SC/ST (Prohibition of Atrocities) Act have been filed.

“In many cases we have targeted to bridge the gap between their institution and disposal and in some categories, the number of cases disposed is higher than the number of cases registered. This will gradually help us in controlling the pendency of cases,” district prosecution officer Mohammad Akram Sheikh said.

Among the total cases pending before the court, the highest pendency is of cases relating to abusing and threatening to death. The second highest pendency at the session court is of cases relating to voluntarily causing hurt.

The pendency of IPC cases within Indore municipal limits has increased from 3859 in 2017 to 3927 till November 30, 2018.
