Usha Thakur

will now cost BJP workers and even her followers Rs 100 each.

The minister, who had recently urged all vaccinated people to donate Rs 500 to PM Cares Fund at Rs 250 per vaccine, on Saturday said she would start charging Rs 100 per selfie with her and use the money in local mandals or sub-district committee operations.

“We all know that posing for a selfie takes a lot of time. Sometimes, we get delayed by several hours due to this. So this idea of collecting charges for a selfie has been mooted from the organizational point of view,” Thakur told mediapersons in Khandwa, about 130km from Indore, on Saturday.

“We have mandal working committees, each of which has a treasurer. Those who will be clicking selfies will have to pay Rs100 to the treasurer of the respective mandal, and this money will be of some use to the organization,” the minister said.

Thakur was on a short visit to Khandwa district on Saturday. During her interaction with party workers, she asked them to welcome leaders with a book, not flowers. “If you would offer a book, someone would read it and learn from it. So I request you all to offer a book instead of a bouquet,” she said.

Thakur, whose statements often trigger controversy, was recently in the news for not wearing a face mask in public. She has said she doesn’t need one because she performs prayers and hawans on a daily basis.
